Government Funds Refugee Youth Project

The Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) awarded Afield and David J. Roberts (University of Toronto) a Partnership Engagement Grant (PEG) worth $24,995.

The grant will be used to better understand how youth and newcomer youth in particular access wrap-around services through formal and informal referrals. Beyond understanding how services are accessed, the project grant will be used to design and implement a referrals curriculum for newcomer youth and their social service providers that gives them a sense of how referrals work in theory and practice.

The projects is a partnership project with the major community partner being a large Toronto social service agency serving 10,000+ clients a year. Many of these clients are newcomers reflecting the demographic mix of the most diverse city in North America.
